Week 10 of 2025
It’s late in the day on Monday, and I’m still in bed. I’ve been in bed almost all day, save for Poppy’s walk in the park this morning and a couple of treks outside for her to pee. I’m sick -- food poisoning, I think. It’s “taper week” -- my half marathon is Sunday, and I wasn’t planning on going anywhere today. But I wasn't planning on going nowhere.
Kin is out of town this week -- on the west coast, visiting family. Yesterday, after my last long run before my race, I ordered food delivery, and damn, it sat in my gut like a stone the rest of the day -- until around 8pm when it started to build towards some serious nausea. I should have barfed; but I hate barfing, so I just curled up in a little ball, pulled the covers up over my head, and tried to sleep it off.
Anyway, I’m getting better, and I’m hopeful I’ll feel fine tomorrow. I have my final speed workout -- one of my favorites: a “fartlek.” But I haven’t really eaten much today -- I still feel a little icky and nothing sounds good. That’s totally unlike me -- usually my hunger is unending.
Speaking of eating (reluctantly, I will speak of eating): we ate at Dirt Candy on Thursday before Kin left town. It is one of my favorites restaurants in the city, and we’ve tried to eat at it regularly -- the menu changes seasonally. I will say, this menu wasn’t my favorite. My favorite bites were these little macarons made from onion and filled with a sweet onion cream. (I should note: Dirt Candy is a vegetarian restaurant and each course features one vegetable.)
Surely the highlight of the week was that Poppy got her stitches out. She was so happy to get to go back on the regular Central Park walks -- well, she was so happy until Kin left. And me being in bed all day -- phew, stink eye.
Second Breakfast this week: “Agents versus Agency” and “Influencers and Expertise.”
In other AI news, I downloaded this app that promised to help me track the health (and watering) of my plants. I’m really struggling to keep a bonsai alive, and I was suckered in by the promise of some sort of techno-magical diagnosis of what’s wrong with it. I don’t have a lot of plants currently, despite having nice big windows and a lot of light in the apartment. Before the app, I’d water everything on Mondays; the cacti I’d water on the first of the month. But oh ho. The app has a different water schedule for every plant. Wildly inefficient and annoying. But “AI” or some shit.
